UAE 7 Day Itinerary: Abu Dhabi, Dubai and One Desert Night
A week fits two cities and a night in the dunes; the rest of the Emirates is better kept for another trip.
The short answer: seven days is enough for Abu Dhabi, Dubai and one night in the desert, and not much more. It works best as a line rather than a loop: land in Abu Dhabi, travel by road to Dubai, fly home from Dubai. Helios runs exactly that as Seven Days Across the Emirates, a shared small-group tour for up to 15 guests. The other emirates, the east coast and the mountains belong on a second trip.
Who this week suits
It suits first-time visitors who want to see both big cities and the desert without planning each day. It does not suit anyone who wants to linger. You will be moving hotels four times in six nights, and the pace follows from that.
The route, night by night
The Helios tour splits its six nights like this:
| Stay | Nights | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Abu Dhabi | 2 | Met at the airport, guided sightseeing with entries included |
| Dubai | 2 | Guided sightseeing with entries included |
| Desert dome | 1 | Heritage safari in a vintage four-wheel-drive, then a night in a luxury dome |
| Dubai, last night | 1 | Free afternoon, farewell dinner, airport transfer the next day |
Be realistic about the edges. Day 1 depends on when your flight lands, and day 7 is a departure day. The 08:00 start applies to the guided programme, so check your arrival time against it. The tour includes a guide, transport, ten meals (six breakfasts, four dinners), and entry fees for the visits in the programme. Lunches, drinks, tips, visas and international flights are not included.
Why Abu Dhabi first
Abu Dhabi is calmer and more spacious, a gentler start while you adjust to the heat and any jet lag. If mosque etiquette is new to you, read the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque dress code and visitor guide before you pack. Dubai comes second because it is louder, denser and more tiring, and that is the better order for stamina.
Practical timing and transport
The road between the two cities takes under two hours in normal traffic, but traffic is not always normal, so treat that day as a transfer day. On the tour, transport between cities and to the desert is included, and you do not drive yourself.
Heat decides more than anything else. From roughly June to September, midday outdoors is punishing and most sightseeing shifts to mornings and evenings. The cooler months are far easier for a packed week. Our guides to the best time to visit Dubai and the Dubai packing list cover the detail.
A slower alternative: one base, add-on days
If four hotel changes sound exhausting, base yourself in Dubai for the week and build outward. Helios does not sell this as a package, so you would arrange the hotel and Abu Dhabi yourself. The tradeoffs are plain:
- Gain: one hotel, later starts, and time to do nothing in the afternoon heat.
- Lose: a guide throughout, bundled entries and one-way logistics. Abu Dhabi becomes a long round trip; our Abu Dhabi day trip from Dubai guide shows what that day involves.
For the desert, the Dubai Red Dunes Safari and BBQ Evening is a seven-hour outing with a dune drive, sandboarding, camel rides and a barbecue dinner. It runs at 11:00 or 14:30, as a shared small-group tour or as a private tour. The 14:30 departure adds stargazing; see what you can see and when it works. You get one evening, not a night, and you sleep in your Dubai hotel.
For one active morning, the Dubai Jet Ski Ride by Burj Al Arab is a private session of 30 or 60 minutes, with start times from 08:00 to 13:00. Hotel transfers are not included, so you meet at the base. Pick an early slot to avoid the midday heat.
What to leave for another trip
- Al Ain: an oasis town with a hill road and heritage sites, worth its own day or two. See the Al Ain guide.
- Northern emirates and the east coast: Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah each need time, and adding them makes the week a blur.
- Second desert experience: the tour already includes a safari and a night in a dome, so a separate dune evening would repeat it.
What to verify before you book
- Visa rules for your nationality, on official government sources. Visa fees are not included in the tour.
- Opening and prayer-time hours of mosques and major attractions, which can change on Fridays and during Ramadan.
- The programme on the trip page, since this article does not list every stop.
- Dates and availability. Check the booking page, not this article.
UAE 7 day itinerary FAQ
Is seven days too short for the UAE?
It is enough for Abu Dhabi, Dubai and a desert night, if you accept that you will see highlights, not depth. It is too short to add other emirates comfortably.
Is Seven Days Across the Emirates private?
No. It runs as a shared small-group tour for up to 15 guests, and that is its only booking format.
Does the tour include flights and visas?
No. International flights and visa fees are excluded, along with lunches, other meals, drinks, tips and personal expenses.
Should I take the tour or base myself in Dubai?
Take the tour if you want one guide and no planning. Base yourself in Dubai if you prefer one hotel and a slower pace, accepting that you organise the rest yourself.
