Sphinx International Airport opened west of Cairo in 2019 to take pressure off the main airport, and sits much closer to Giza than Cairo International does. Its duty-free shop follows the same in-country rules as the others: passport, entry stamp, and a window counted from the day you arrived in Egypt.

History & background
Sphinx International was built on an existing military airfield at Wadi al-Nil and opened to civil traffic in 2019, named for the monument it sits near rather than for anything on the site. Its reason for existing is congestion: Cairo International handles the great majority of Egypt's air traffic, and Sphinx was intended to take short-haul and charter pressure off it while putting arrivals within easy reach of the pyramids rather than across the whole city. For a visitor the interest is entirely practical — it is the closest airport to Giza, which makes its duty-free a plausible stop on a Cairo day rather than a detour, and it is worth confirming opening hours before building a day around it.
