Eden Island

Typical visit: 5 h

A quiet sandbar and its reef away from the main Giftun run, where the boats are fewer and the coral heads start almost under the ladder.

About

Eden sits off the usual circuit, which is the whole reason it is sold. The Giftun anchorages take most of the day boats out of Hurghada; the ones that come here find a sandbar and a fringing reef with room to swim without another party's fins in front of you.

The coral starts close — heads of porites and table acropora in three to six metres, with the usual reef fish holding station over them: anthias in clouds, sergeant majors, the occasional bluespotted ray sitting on sand between the heads. There is nothing built here. Shade comes from the boat and lunch is served on board, which is what keeps it quiet.
