Orange Bay Boat Trip from Hurghada: What the Four Hours Involve

A plain guide to Helios's private speedboat trip to Orange Bay, the optional Giftun snorkel stop and what to prepare.

Orange Bay Boat Trip from Hurghada: What the Four Hours Involve

If you want a half-day on the water from Hurghada, with a famous beach and no all-day commitment, Helios's private Orange Bay speedboat trip suits you. It starts with a hotel pickup at 08:00 and lasts four hours. The speedboat reaches Orange Bay in about 20 minutes. You get roughly two hours on the sand, plus an optional snorkel over a Giftun reef.

It suits you less if you want lunch on board, a full day at sea or a beach to yourself. Orange Bay is the Red Sea's most photographed beach, so you will not be alone on it. This is a short, fast, beach-focused outing.

How the morning runs

This trip is booked as a private format: just your party, friends or family of whatever size. Your group sets the order of the day.

Orange Bay and Giftun Island

Orange Bay sits on the edge of the Giftun Island National Park, a protected area off Hurghada. The draw is a pale sandbar and very clear, shallow-looking water that photographs well. The two hours are free time: swim, walk the sand, sit down with a drink.

The speedboat saves you the long transit of a larger shared vessel. It does not stop other visitors from using the same beach. If you dislike crowds, a private boat helps with the journey but not necessarily with the sand.

The snorkel stop: optional, and worth deciding in advance

Between the marina and the island, or on the way back, the boat can stop over a reef in Giftun National Park. Snorkel gear and life jackets are included, and the stop is about 45 minutes. You do not have to snorkel. Skipping it leaves you more time on the beach.

Think about the sea too. A fast boat can be bumpy when the wind is up, and the Red Sea is noticeably cooler in winter, so a snorkel is more comfortable in warmer months. Weather can affect any boat trip, so expect to confirm on the day.

What is not included

  • Lunch. You get soft drinks and fruit, not a meal. Eat a proper breakfast before the 08:00 start.
  • The Orange Bay entry ticket. It is paid on the island, per person, and is separate from the nature-reserve fees, which are included.
  • Drinks on the island and personal expenses.

Included are the private speedboat, snorkel equipment, life jackets, a guide, soft drinks, fruit, air-conditioned transfers, nature-reserve fees and insurance.

What to bring

  • A personal towel
  • Swimwear
  • Sunscreen
  • A beach hat

The sun on a sandbar is strong even on a hazy day, and shade can be limited. Reapply sunscreen after swimming. Bring a little money for the entry ticket and any island drinks.

Fitting it into a Hurghada stay

Because it ends mid-morning or around midday, the trip leaves the afternoon free. It is a better pairing for a rest day than for a long excursion day. If you are weighing a bigger outing, read our guide to the Cairo or Luxor day trip from Hurghada, which is a very different kind of day.
