The Bells

A narrow chimney in the reef wall north of the Blue Hole that opens at about twenty-eight metres onto open blue — the usual way divers enter the Blue Hole drift.

The Bells is a crack in the fringing reef, wide enough for one diver at a time, that runs from the surface down the wall and opens out at around twenty-eight metres. You drop through it and the reef simply ends: wall on your left, several hundred metres of water below, and nothing ahead.

From there the dive is a gentle drift south along the wall to the Blue Hole saddle, past soft coral and gorgonians, with the wall face close enough to read the whole way. It is not a technical dive and it does not need to be — the depth is manageable and the guide sets the profile — but the exit through the chimney is a moment most divers remember longer than the reef.

The site sits above the Blue Hole itself, whose arch at fifty-six metres is well beyond recreational limits and is not part of a guided dive here.
