Our most recommended things to do in Würzburg

Würzburg sits on the River Main in northern Bavaria, and its Old Town is small enough to explore on foot. The Residenz, the palace of the prince-bishops and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, stands at one edge of the centre. At the other is the Old Main Bridge, lined with statues of saints, where locals meet over a glass of wine with Marienberg Fortress looking down from its hill across the river.

Wine runs through the city's life. The vineyards reach almost to the fortress walls, and Franconian wine is served in its own flat, round bottle. Our walks let you taste it where it belongs, on the bridge or in the Old Town, and in Advent the market square fills with the Christmas market and the smell of mulled wine. Further afield, the Romantic Road leads south through the Tauber valley to Weikersheim Castle and the walled town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber, an easy day trip by coach.

Most of our Würzburg tours meet in the Old Town, at the market square or in front of the Residenz, and the exact meeting point comes with your booking. Prices shown are estimates and are confirmed with you before you travel.
