Nuremberg lies on the River Pegnitz in Franconia, in northern Bavaria, and its walled Old Town is easy to explore on foot. The Imperial Castle stands on a sandstone ridge at the northern edge, where emperors of the Holy Roman Empire stayed on their travels. Below it are Albrecht Dürer's House, the half-timbered lanes of the castle quarter and the Hauptmarkt with its gilded Beautiful Fountain, where the Christmas market fills the square in Advent.
The city has more than one layer. Under the castle and inside the city wall run defensive corridors you can walk through with a guide, and beneath the Old City Hall lie the medieval prison cells. Our food walk tells Nuremberg's story through its small bratwurst, Blaue Zipfel and red beer. South-east of the centre, the former Nazi Party Rally Grounds are now a place of documentation and remembrance; our guided walk there is factual and calm, and leaves room for questions.
Most of our Nuremberg tours meet in the Old Town, at the Hauptmarkt, the Old City Hall or St Lorenz Church; the rally grounds walk starts at the Documentation Center, a short tram or bus ride away. Our guides lead in English, and the private walk also in German. Prices shown are estimates and are confirmed with you before you travel.
