Snorkeling the Red Sea from Hurghada: what to expect

Hurghada sits on some of the clearest water in the northern Red Sea. Most snorkeling tours leave from the marina in the morning and return mid-afternoon with two or three reef stops.

Bring reef-safe sunscreen, a light rash guard, and motion-sickness tablets if you are sensitive on boats. Masks and fins are provided on most shared trips; private speedboats offer more flexibility on timing.

Family-friendly options include Orange Bay and Giftun Island, while Mahmya and quieter reefs suit guests who want fewer crowds. Visibility is usually best from March to November.

Combine a snorkeling day with a desert safari or old-town walk for a well-rounded Hurghada stay without overloading a single day.
