Every island day trip from Hurghada, compared

Nine trips, two of which are not islands and one of which is on the same island as another. Sorted by what kind of day you are actually buying.

There are eight or nine "island trips" on sale in Hurghada and they are sold as if they were interchangeable. They are not. Two of them are not islands. One of them is on the same island as another. And the difference between the cheapest and the most expensive is not quality — it is what kind of day you are buying.

This is the whole board, compared honestly.

First, the thing that explains the whole list

Almost everything offshore from Hurghada sits inside the Giftun Island National Park, and a park fee is collected per person, in cash, on the day, separately from your trip price. It is not an upsell; it funds the park.

The islands themselves are low, sandy and treeless. What varies is not the scenery — it is three things: how far you swim to reach reef, how many people share the beach, and whether the day is built around the beach or around the water. Sort on those and the list stops being confusing.

The beach-club days

Orange Bay. The polished one: white sand, long shallow entry, umbrella rows, restaurants, bars, a jetty. Comfortable, photogenic, and busy. The water in front of the loungers is sand, not reef — snorkelling happens at a stop on the way. Available as a group boat day or by private speedboat, and the two are genuinely different experiences of the same beach.

Mahmya. On Giftun proper, inside the park, and it feels it: lower-key, more natural, a long sandbar, and reef you can actually reach from the beach. Simpler catering than Orange Bay, better setting.

Choose Orange Bay for comfort and the photograph. Choose Mahmya if you want the island rather than the bar, or if children need to snorkel from standing depth.

The sandbank days

These are the family answer: shallow, calm, and reef that begins where you can still stand.

Nemo Island — the budget option and, for nervous swimmers, one of the best. Anemones with clownfish two metres from the sand, which is where the nickname comes from.

Hula Hula Island — a sandbar with reef along one edge; walk in from the beach, coral heads at chest depth.

Eden Island — the same idea with noticeably fewer boats. The quiet one.

Paradise Island — reached by private speedboat, so a short, sharp half-day rather than a full one. Good when you don't want to lose the whole day to a boat.

Utopia Island — a beach day with a glass-bottom boat included, which is the right answer for anyone in the group who will not put their face in the water.
