Our most recommended things to do in Puerto Princesa

Puerto Princesa is the capital of Palawan and the gateway to its best-known natural site, the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River, a limestone cave on the west coast that you enter by paddle boat. The drive to Sabang takes about two hours each way, so the river fills a full day. Closer to town, Honda Bay is about 30 minutes from the centre and suits a day of island hopping, with a tidal sandbar, a snorkelling reef and lunch on a beach island. In the evening, a short boat trip takes you into the mangroves to watch the fireflies.

If you prefer to stay on land, our half-day city tour covers the cathedral, Plaza Cuartel from the Second World War, the Baywalk and a wildlife rescue centre, and a private heritage tour takes you through the city's museums. Our own local guides lead every tour in English, and most trips include pickup from hotels in the city.

A few practical notes. A visitor entrance permit is needed for the Underground River; we arrange it, so book ahead and bring your passport or ID. An environmental fee of PHP 150 per person applies at the river, Honda Bay and the firefly wharf, and each tour page says whether it is included. Boat trips depend on weather and sea conditions. The prices shown are estimates and are confirmed with your booking.
