Heritage Desert Safaris in Dubai

Popular tours in this category

A heritage safari is a quieter way into the desert. Instead of fast dune driving, you cross a desert reserve near Dubai in an open four-wheel drive from the 1980s, looking out for wildlife on the way, then join a camel caravan in the older, slower style of desert travel. The morning tour includes a traditional coffee session, a falcon experience and a Bedouin breakfast at an oasis; one version adds a stop at a lake where flamingos gather. The evening tour leaves in the afternoon and ends with henna, a falcon show, a five-course Bedouin dinner and stargazing.

Who it suits

These trips suit families, photographers and anyone who wants the desert without the bumps of dune bashing. The morning tours start early, with shared pickup from Dubai hotels around 07:00; the evening tour starts at about 14:00. From October to April the mornings are pleasant and the evenings can be cool, so bring a light jacket. Wear comfortable clothes and closed shoes.
