Egypt Holidays 2026: Real Experiences, Prices, Duration & Flight Time

Honest answers from our team in Hurghada.

A holiday in Egypt costs roughly €650–1,000 per person in 2026 for a week of all-inclusive with flights. Flights from German-speaking Europe take about 4 to 4.5 hours. For a beach holiday, 7 to 10 days is ideal; add excursions and 10 to 14 days works better. We live and work in Hurghada — here are honest answers to the questions guests ask us most, based on what we see on the ground every day.

1. What travelers actually experience

What our guests love most

  • The Red Sea: clear water, colourful fish and turtles — straight off the hotel jetty.
  • Value for money: five-star all-inclusive at prices that would not buy three stars in Europe.
  • Warm hospitality: Egyptians are welcoming hosts, especially with families.
  • Short flight: around 4 hours — no jet lag, no stress.

The honest downsides — and how we handle them

1. Pushy sellers in bazaars and old-town streets.
→ Our fix: a friendly “la, shukran” (no, thank you), or walk with a local guide — then you are left in peace.

2. Parts of the old town and some streets are loud and untidy.
→ Our fix: visit the new Marina and the El Mina Mosque instead — clean, beautiful and safe.

3. City traffic takes some getting used to.
→ Our fix: book transfers through your tour operator rather than hailing something outside the hotel.

What we see every day: most guests leave happy and come back. Planning with local support avoids 90% of the small problems.

2. Prices in 2026: what does a holiday in Egypt cost?

ItemPer person (approx.)
Package holiday, 7 days, 4–5 stars, all-inclusive with flights€650–1,000
Return flight, depending on airport & season€300–1,000
Hotel in the Nile Valley (Luxor/Aswan), per night€30–60
Day trip to Luxor from Hurghada€80–150
Giftun Island boat trip including lunch€35–60

How much money do you need for two weeks in Egypt?

For two all-inclusive weeks with 2–3 excursions and tips: about €1,200–2,000 per person. Budget a little more if you plan a lot of independent trips.

Why has Egypt become more expensive?

Three reasons: higher energy and food prices, strong demand since 2022, and a wave of new luxury resorts. Even so, Egypt remains cheaper than comparable destinations such as Dubai or the Maldives — the value for money is still excellent.

3. Duration: how many days are ideal?

Type of tripRecommended length
Short break / 6 dayspossible, but one location only — barely worth the flight time
Beach holiday7–10 days
Beach + excursions (Luxor or Cairo)10–14 days
Our recommendation: 10 days is the sweet spot — 7 days of beach and rest plus 2 days of culture. Relaxed and memorable. Build your own version in our trip planner.

4. Flight time: how long does it take to fly to Egypt?

FromToDirect flight (approx.)

BerlinHurghada4 h 45 min
HamburgHurghada3 h 45 min
ViennaHurghada3 h 45 min
ZurichHurghada4 h 15 min

Time difference: Egypt is one hour ahead of central European time. No jet lag — ideal for children and older travellers.

5. Best time to go

  • Red Sea: October to April — November is our insider tip.
  • Nile Valley (Luxor/Aswan): October–November and February–March — no punishing heat while sightseeing.
  • Summer (July/August): very hot inland; still fine on the Red Sea thanks to the breeze.

Which month is cheapest? November and March, when high season is just ending or beginning: same sun, same hotels — noticeably better prices. Early May and late April often have offers too.

6. What is there to do besides the pyramids?

Guests often ask: “What is there beyond the pyramids and the desert?” Plenty.

  • Snorkelling and diving in the Red Sea (Giftun Island, Safaga, Marsa Alam)
  • Desert safari with quad bikes, camels and a Bedouin dinner
  • Day trip to Luxor: Karnak Temple and the Valley of the Kings
  • Nile cruise from Aswan to Luxor
  • Hurghada Marina and the El Mina Mosque in the evening
  • El Gouna: cafés, lagoons and kitesurfing
  • Cairo in two days: pyramids, the Sphinx and the new Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM)

7. Verdict: is Egypt worth it in 2026?

Yes — more than ever. A short flight, fair prices, a warm sea and world-class heritage. With good planning and local support, the holiday is relaxed instead of stressful.
